The ∇ effect (pronounced: nabla effect) describes the polarizing effect that emanates from the Platz.

The magnetic currents of the earth's magnetic field affect all life on earth. Studies have shown, however, that the man-made design of the earth's surface also interferes with the earth's magnetic field. Normally, this effect is minimal and is therefore neglected in research. However, this does not apply to the Platz. Research has not yet been able to conclusively describe how the magnetic bodies influence each other there. In the case of the Platz, not only its triangular shape, but also the Volksbühne building in particular, interferes with the earth's magnetic field in such a way that the magnetic force is significantly stronger than in other places on earth. So-called magnetic turbulence occurs, which even people can feel when there is no wind. Whoever stays here will feel the impact of this effect on their body and mind. It seems as if those who spend a lot of time in this place - because they work here or because they live here - are particularly affected.

It is explained in detail in an episode of the ∇-Podcast:
