The Roter Stiefel (Red Boot) is a building at the northeast end of the Platz. It closes the gap both ideologically and aesthetically between the Nazi-Bauten and the Poelzig-Bauten and is located with its three corners on Torstraße, Linienstraße and Weydingerstraße. The explanation for the name only emerges when you become a bird and look at the building from above. Unlike Italy, it is not an elegant knee-high boot with a heel, but a very mundane, stinky boot, as must have been worn by robbers in the past.

There are numerous offices in it, especially those of the editorial team of the Junge Welt, which also knows something about Stinkstiefel (a very common synonym for Germans a.k.a. people that like to argue about something). It falls into the same category as the other late gap fillers such as the Schönhauser Tor and also the Suhrkamp publishing house: It just doesn't work without a glass front.
